Songül Arslan

Songül Arslan was born in 1973 in Miltenberg, Germany. At the age of 13, her family decided to move permanently to Turkey, settling in Gaziantep. During her secondary school and high school years, she began participating in folk dances and took part in various competitions and festivals. She joined the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality folk dance group and performed abroad. In 1993, she passed the Turkish Folk Dance entrance exam at the Turkish Music State Conservatory of Gaziantep University and graduated after five years of training.

During her studies, she learned the folk dances and styles of all regions of Turkey. She actively participated in many performances and festivals the university was invited to, both as part of a group and as a solo dancer. She was also selected as a jury member for the Turkish Folk Dance Federation.

Starting in 1998, she gave folk dance classes and organized performances for more than two years at the deutsch-türkische Musikakademie in Berlin. From 2003 onward, she worked at various private schools in Turkey, and in 2012, she moved to Didim, a district of Aydin. She is the mother of one child and currently works as a teacher at a secondary school in Didim.
