Percussion Instruments
Davul, Bendir and Darbuka
The Percussion Department of the Deutsch-Türkische Musikakademie offers a comprehensive education focused on the fundamental power of rhythm and the energetic structure of music. It covers both the rhythmic structures of Western music and the traditional rhythmic understanding of Turkish music (including straight and complex “aksak” meters). Lessons provide hands-on training with Davul, Bendir, Darbuka and similar percussion instruments.
Students learn the metronomic rhythm structures characteristic of Western music, as well as the distinctive rhythmic patterns of Turkish music, gaining the opportunity to experience the rhythmic richness of both musical cultures. The goal is to train versatile percussionists with a well-developed sense of rhythm, proficient in both modern and traditional repertoires.
